Psychological facts, such as behaviors and personalities, have been mainstays in the general interest, but applying the study’s philosophy was a curiosity-turned-habit to 23-year-old Paulina Gabrielle “Pau” C. Gonzales.

Gonzales shared her interest in Psychology and how the study has been an influence to her. In the midst of knowing herself better, Gonzales ventured into the theories that relates to mental health, expressing her eagerness to know why she feels certain emotions, and what really trigger those. Gonzales cited that she primarily read online articles about the study, as well as being an avid subscriber to inspirational posts from various social media sites.

“As someone who is sensitive and feels emotions deeply, I tend to invalidate my own feelings which is not actually healthy,” Gonzales said, “... I just want to be able to feel things freely. ”Gonzales works at SGV & Co., a globally-recognized audit firm headquartered in the Philippines, as a Customer Experience Associate where she conducts research for process optimization to streamline business workflows.

Gonzales entered the corporate world through consulting and channels her passion for education by providing consolidated services, which she expressed has given her a great sense of fulfillment for adapting the nature of education with the objective nature of business.

When asked if she uses any specific psychological methods in her work, Gonzales answered that she doesn’t apply any notable concepts from the field but merely analyzes work patterns to determine consolidating solutions, which she confirmed came from her personal researches in the study.

Kristine C. Gonzales, her mother, shared that Gonzales originally wanted to be a teacher and had in fact made plans in pursuing her studies in education.

“Paulina had always wanted to be a teacher. Ever since she was young, her only answer to the question “what do you want to be when you grow up” was to be a teacher,” Kristine C. Gonzales said. “Paulina even had plans to major in education but later changed her mind and pursued her studies in business administration where she specialized in computer applications for better career opportunities.”

Gonzales’ mother added that Gonzales has shown signs of maturity and personal improvement. “Her genuine intent to improve herself is her best asset that had helped her be successful in both her personal and professional life,” Kristine C. Gonzales said.

Jeanne C. Gonzales, Gonzales’ sister, a 12th -grade student, described Gonzales as an introvert with books being her best companion. As her sister shared, Gonzales expressed that books had provided her a creative alternate reality that had help her cope with the real world. Gonzales also shared that she takes mental health seriously and has gone so far as seeing a psychologist for counseling, and expressed that she learned that it is necessary to accept feelings to move forward.

“I’ve learned that I shouldn’t be labeled based on my mental state...” Gonzales said.

“Remember that your feelings are always valid, don’t beat up yourself for these feelings. What matters is that you help yourself no matter what you’re going through.”
